It’s been almost twenty years since Tyler Perry’s characters have been wondering why they decided to get married. But even existential doubts like these feel lighter and more bearable when, as in the third installment of the saga available exclusively on Netflix from September 9, 2026, the setting is that of picturesque lakeside villages, historic villas, and luxurious mansions with breathtaking views and romantic strolls along the shore: the main locations of Why Did I Get Married Again? are indeed found in one of Italy’s most exclusive corners, a spot often chosen by celebrities for their extravagant weddings.
What it’s about
Jasmine, the daughter of Marcus and Angela, is about to marry Wesley: a young athlete not exactly well regarded by the family. The wedding becomes the occasion to reunite on the Lago di Como the longtime circle of friends who were already the stars of the two previous films in the series (Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too?).
Among them is the same Tyler Perry in the role of Terry: a man who has long been married to Sharon and who, together with her, is committed to defending at all costs the appearance of a happy couple.
Coming back together after years of cohabitation, even if only for a few days, brings to the surface within the group old misunderstandings, jealousy, and wounds that have never healed. The generation of the parents sees, above all, their children repeating many of their own past mistakes, and that is enough to transform Tyler Perry’s comedy into a reflection on the meaning of relationships: both as couples and beyond.
Where the film was shot
Lake Como provides a tranquil backdrop to the emotional upheavals of the protagonists of Why Did I Get Married Again? and it is here that the new Tyler Perry film was shot, at least in part: on the western shores of the Lombard lake beloved by celebrities and film productions, where the wedding scenes were filmed.
Cernobbio
Among the locations of Why Did I Get Married Again? is highlighted especially Cernobbio: a town famous primarily for its sumptuous historic villas facing the lake (two standouts being Villa d’Este and Villa Erba), but it also has an appealing center, with the winding alleys of what used to be the fishermen’s village and the small harbor full of little discoveries.
From Piazza Risorgimento, named in memory of the fallen and the milestones that led to the unification of Italy, one enjoys a magnificent view of the lake at all hours and in every season because it is always different in color and shade.
For some time now, Cernobbio has been rediscovered as a destination also for outdoor sport enthusiasts who can practice activities on the lake, and for trekking lovers who can easily reach Monte Bisbino and Monte Generoso for excursions from here.
The area, as Tyler Perry’s tragically comic work clearly shows, has fully entered the so‑called wedding-tourism circuit, with hundreds of couples who are not locals choosing it each year as the setting for their weddings. This is what Jasmine and Wesley did as well, the protagonists of Why Did I Get Married Again?, inviting family and friends to celebrate their union, yes, but also to discover the beauty of Lake Como.
Luxurious villas converted into reception venues, lakeside terraces and panoramic viewpoints where newlyweds and guests are captured are what have made the area a perfect destination for weddings. Among the celebrity unions celebrated here are Johnny Legend with Chrissy Teigen, Elettra Lamborghini with Afrojack, and Katie Holmes with her new love.
