The world’s most expensive French fries? They were conceived and created by a restaurant located in the United States, more precisely in New York. The price is $200 justified by the ingredients (definitely precious) with which they are prepared.
French fries are beloved worldwide, a true must on tables and everywhere there are many versions. Generally accessible to all, but not at the Serendipity3 in New York, a venue famed for its Guinness World Records, including the one for the most expensive sandwich in the world. Likewise the fries, which hover around $200, i.e. at the moment about €183.
The Guinness Fries? The Serendipity3 New York Recipe
The ingredients that make up the dish are extraordinary and justify the price, we are talking about the fries of Serendipity3 in New York that won the Guinness World Record. The name of the dish is telling: Crème de la crème des pommes frittes, and it is made using the best ingredients. Conceptualized by chefs Joe Calderone and Fredrick Schoen-Kiewert, they were created to offer a unique dish. And thus they transformed street food par excellence into a record-breaking delicacy.
The base ingredient is Clipperback potatoes. These must first be blanched, but not in ordinary water; rather in Dom Pérignon champagne and in the Champagne-Ardenne Le Blanc vinegar. The next step is frying: but do not think of oil, as this step is carried out using pure duck fat.
The fries are then sprinkled with edible oil and seasoned with salt and truffle oil. Final step: when plated (strictly served on a crystal plate), they are accompanied by shavings of truffle and cheese sauce.
This recipe earned the Guinness World Record in 2021 and, at the time, there was a very long waiting list to taste it. As CNN reported, it was about ten weeks.
Other Record-Breaking Dishes at the New York Location
Not only fries: at the Serendipity3 in New York, other record-breaking dishes have been created, so – if you’re planning a trip to the Big Apple – it’s worth including it as a stop. In addition to traditional dishes at more affordable prices, you’ll find those that have earned the Guinness World Record.
Like a simple grilled cheese sandwich served at the “modest” price of 214 dollars, about 195 euros. The recipe was reintroduced for a limited time in April 2023 on the occasion of the National Grilled Cheese Day. Also in this case the preparation involves the use of luxury ingredients and of the highest quality.
As explained in an Instagram post from the venue, the The Quintessential Grilled Cheese Sandwich is composed of: “Champagne Pullman French bread made with Dom Perignon Champagne and 23k edible gold flakes, buttered with grass-fed white truffle butter.” Inside, then, a really special filling made with the Caciocavallo Podolico cheese: “Produced in Southern Italy from the milk of the Podolica cow, which graze outdoors, feeding on strongly aromatic herbs such as fennel, licorice, juniper, bay leaf and wild strawberries, imparting these sweet aromatic scents to the milk. There are only about 25,000 of these special cows and they produce milk only during May and June, making this cheese one of the most prized and rare in the world.”
On the venue’s official site menu, the Guinness World Record dishes are listed as orderable (but in advance): Golden Opulence Sundae (a truly special ice cream dessert), the hamburger Le Burger Extravagant, the Quintessential Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Foot Long Haute Dog, Luxe Milkshake and the world’s most expensive fries.
