The Value of Sustainability in Luxury Tourism: The Liastì Model in Mykonos

July 25, 2026

Luxury tourism is undergoing a transformation: if until a few years ago the exclusivity was synonymous with premium services and spectacular locations, today more and more travelers are seeking authentic experiences, built around quality, sustainability, and a deep connection with the territory.

This is the philosophy that guided Massimo Cirillo, an entrepreneur from Torre del Greco, when in 2015 he gave life to Liastì, a beach club overlooking one of the most evocative coasts of Mykonos. A family-born project that, ten years after its opening, continues to stand out for a hospitality approach where Made in Italy is not merely a brand, but a through-line that runs through cuisine, design, craftsmanship, and hospitality.

An idea of hospitality that centers Made in Italy

After completing a degree in Economics and Commerce and a first professional experience in London, Cirillo chose to relocate to Mykonos in the early nineties. Since then he has developed several activities in the hospitality sector, up to the creation of Liastì, realized together with his family. Here every element contributes to telling the Italian excellence: from the cuisine, which highlights selected products, to the boutique curated by his wife Valeria, to the furnishings and structures crafted by Italian artisans.

Sustainability means also the supply chain

Quality inevitably passes through the choice of raw materials. An increasing number of high-end accommodations and restaurants are focusing on carefully selected productions, controlled supply chains, and ingredients capable of telling the story of the territory from which they come.

Products such as the Pomodorino del Piennolo, the Provolone del Monaco, the Alici di Cetara or the gamberi rossi di Mazara del Vallo are not only gastronomic excellences: they are the result of production traditions that help preserve biodiversity, artisanal skills, and cultural identity. For Cirillo, this very approach represents the future of hospitality: elevating niche productions and building a bridge between Italian territories and an international audience through dining and hospitality.

A luxury that tells a story

Design also contributes to defining this philosophy. The use of elements created by Italian artisans and the choice to craft environments capable of dialoguing with the natural landscape demonstrate how contemporary luxury can be discreet, identity-driven, and tied to know-how.

In an increasingly competitive tourist market, especially in iconic destinations like Mykonos, experiences like Liastì show how sustainability, quality and authenticity can become distinctive elements, transforming hospitality into a tool for enhancing the Made in Italy well beyond national borders.
