The Italian sky is once again set to be painted in green, white, and red. After the international engagements of August, the Frecce Tricolori return to the spotlight with five events planned for September, spanning grand Air Shows and spectacular flyovers.
If you want to witness live the incredible maneuvers of the National Acrobatics Team, here are the dates to mark on your calendar: it starts from the scenic setting of Lake Garda and ends at the sun-drenched coast of Salerno.
September 5: the show over Lake Garda
The first date takes place in Desenzano del Garda (Brescia), where Saturday, September 5 will host the Garda Air Show. The Frecce Tricolori will be the centerpiece of a festival that will also feature several other aircraft. The official show starts at 10:15 AM and ends at 12:30 PM, with the PAN’s aerial evolutions painting the sky above the lake.
What are the best spots to admire the show? The Lungolago Cesare Battisti is certainly one of the most evocative choices: it lies in the heart of Desenzano and offers an open view of the lake, precisely toward the water surface where the maneuvers will unfold, but you should arrive early given the expected crowds. Another option is the Desenzanino Beach, perfect for watching the show from a more relaxed vantage point and close to the water. For an even wider view, you can reach several vantage points in nearby towns along the southern shore of Garda: from Sirmione to Padenghe (for example from its medieval castle), the show will still be visible.
September 6: the Frecce Tricolori fly over Monza
Just a day later, Sunday, September 6, the Frecce Tricolori will fly over Monza on the occasion of the Italian Grand Prix. It won’t be an Air Show, but a flyover included in the National Acrobatics Team’s official calendar: a special chance to see the famous tricolor contrails in the Brianza sky.
To witness the pass, the most evocative spot is naturally the area around the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, where the flyover will be tied to race day: it will occur around 3:00 PM, a few minutes before the start of the race. Those in the city could instead aim for the Parco di Monza, which offers wide open spaces and a more unobstructed view of the sky.
September 12: Jesolo Air Show
September 12 will bring Jesolo, one of the season’s most eagerly awaited events. The Frecce Tricolori will headline the Jesolo Air Show, an event that for years has drawn thousands of spectators to the Veneto coast.
Here choosing your spot is simple: the show is freely visible along the entire coastline, from Piazza Marina to Piazza Manzoni. The central display line point is the shoreline at Piazza Brescia, where the show center is located.
For the occasion there is also a treat for collectors and enthusiasts: on Saturday, September 12, from 10:30 to 19:00, in Piazzetta Casa Bianca, an exclusive philatelic cancellation dedicated to the Frecce Tricolori’s passage will be available. The commemorative stamp, produced specifically for the event, will be a special keepsake of the day.
September 18: flyover in Val Trompia
The fourth event will be Friday, September 18 in Val Trompia, again in the Brescia area. On this occasion the Frecce Tricolori will perform a flyover tied to the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of Beretta.
Since this is a flyover and not an Air Show, there isn’t a proper viewing area comparable to those in Desenzano or Jesolo. The reference indicated in the official program is Gardone Val Trompia: to see the formation it is therefore advisable to choose open spaces in the town and surrounding areas, avoiding narrow roads or spots blocked by buildings. For the timings and the possible exact flyover point it will be important to wait for the organizers’ directions.
September 27: grand finale in Salerno
To close the Italian September schedule, Salerno will host from September 25 to 27 the 22nd National Gathering of the Association of the Aeronautical Arm – Aviators of Italy, with a grand Frecce Tricolori Air Show. For the entire weekend the Blue Village will be set up on Lungomare Santa Teresa, featuring a flight simulator, an aircraft cockpit on display and stands dedicated to the Aeronautica Militare and to the Association of the Aeronautical Arm. On Saturday, September 26, at 3:30 PM, rehearsals of the National Acrobatics Team’s display are also planned on the Pastena promenade.
The most awaited moment, however, will be Sunday, September 27: after the Gathering ceremony and the march past of the Aviators of Italy, at 2:30 PM the transfers to Pastena will begin, where from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM the Frecce Tricolori Air Show will take the stage.
To admire the PAN’s evolutions, it is best to reach the Pastena promenade, where the display will take place. For those who want to spend the entire day, the Lungomare Trieste and Piazza della Libertà will be the heart of the Gathering celebrations, while from the Blue Village a dedicated trek specifically to the Frecce Tricolori will also depart.
