Have you ever dreamed of taking a legendary journey through the exotic East? Let us imagine so, because it means discovering ancient wonders that mingle with surprising cosmopolitan cities. A world, from certain perspectives, entirely different from the Western one, where magic meets adventure, in the most total relaxation.
All aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express
Starting this February, you can board the Eastern & Oriental Express, a train steeped in legend and equipped with splendid green-and-gold carriages adorned with extraordinary cherry wood paneling.
It is a prestigious luxury train that takes you to the heart of the East, a journey of elegance and refinement, key attributes of the Belmond offerings, together with the unique charm of the Southeast Asian countries.
Not to mention the high-quality services, the exquisite cuisine, and the carefully curated visits and excursions. A train measuring a full 400 meters in length, with elegant and comfortable carriages where you can fully live one of the world’s most fascinating regions. Between one toast and another, from the window you can admire sumptuous jungles, ancient temples, and characteristic villages, before stepping off from your stylish climate-controlled carriages to discover dreamlike places.
This year, among other things, Malaysia has for the first time been added to its routes.
The itineraries
There are two itineraries available, and the first one we would like to tell you about is extraordinary because it starts in Singapore and passes through Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and Penang: the trip of a lifetime. All of this with a perfect balance of on-board relaxation and incredible landscapes outside the train, followed by snorkeling, exploring wonders, and indulging in fascinating cultural tours.
The three-night journey begins as you board the remarkable Eastern & Oriental Express at Singapore’s Woodlands station. You settle into your modern cabin and depart, while verdant and lush landscapes accompany you, slowly revealing Malaysia’s wild nature.
Passing rice fields and timeless rural villages, you reach Alor Setar where a 25-minute boat trip awaits at Langkawi’s Pulau Payar Marine Park, renowned for its vibrant underwater life. Here you can explore this extraordinary island, where you’ll feel welcomed by the friendly locals.
The journey continues to the equally wonderful Penang Island, where you discover Georgetown’s old district filled with splendid temples and many other major attractions tucked away in hidden corners.
Starting in March, another three-night journey becomes available, truly unique in its kind. It begins again in Singapore, then reaches Merapoh station to experience extraordinary adventures in the Taman Negara National Park: formed around 130 million years ago, it is one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world.
Between broad rivers and lush mountains live all kinds of wildlife, such as water buffaloes, macaques, tapirs, and even the Malayan tiger.
Then again, the Penang Island, where art lovers can explore Georgetown’s old quarter with a guide, while food enthusiasts can embark on a journey through Peranakan cuisine.
In short, the Eastern & Oriental Express is truly a dream come true.
