What was considered wasn’t only the venues and nightclubs: the survey also assessed the quality of the offering, the prices, the possibility to socialize and the way a city is perceived after sunset, in terms of safety, vitality, hospitality and diversity. To these data, Time Out editors and experts’ votes were added. To ensure international representation, the ranking also included only the top-scoring city for each country.

There are certainly surprises: at the very top of the podium, it isn’t one of the traditional European night capitals, but a large Asian metropolis.

Bangkok is the city with the best nightlife in the world

Move over Ibiza. When we talk about nightlife, people instinctively think of the great capitals of entertainment and the most famous destinations for parties and clubs, but Time Out’s new ranking flips expectations. Bangkok, in fact, takes first place in the new ranking of the world’s best cities for nightlife in 2026. The Thai capital scored very highly across almost every aspect considered, managing to satisfy both those seeking big clubs and those who prefer a tighter cocktail bar or a night spent simply on the street.

Its strength lies precisely in the variety: the city moves from small street-facing venues to mega clubs, from rooftop bars with skyline views to addresses dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community, without forgetting the great tradition of late-night street food. The night can begin with a drink on Soi Nana, in the Chinatown district, and continue among venues, music and outdoor tables. Among the liveliest neighborhoods are also Thonglor and Silom.

The numbers confirm the first place: 73% of residents endorse Bangkok’s nightlife, while Time Out experts reach 95% approval.

The ranking shows that in 2026 nightlife goes well beyond clubs, encompassing bars, live music, rooftops, parties and street food. After Bangkok, Berlin confirms itself as the queen of European nightlife thanks to historic clubs, parties and independent events.

In third place sits New York, with a offering capable of pleasing diverse tastes, from big clubs to wine bars and the lively LGBTQ+ scene. They follow with Melbourne (Australia), where the night can take on very different shapes, and São Paulo (Brazil), which after sunset becomes a real playground: here the growth of venues perched on the rooftops of historic buildings, with parties, music and city views, is particularly interesting.

Medellín, in Colombia, seizes a top 10 thanks to its vibrant music scene and clubs, with reggaeton taking a major role, while Johannesburg, in South Africa, stands out for a nightlife in continual evolution between techno, deep house and Afro-house and for a strong sense of community.

Brighton, in the United Kingdom, stands out for its inclusive atmosphere, while Beijing offers nightlife ranging from hutong venues to live music and new formats like coffee raves, also being the most affordable in the top 20.

Amsterdam, on the other hand, continues to reinvent its nightlife beyond the historic center, with clubs, listening bars and cultural spaces, while Porto earns praise for the informal and welcoming atmosphere of its neighborhood bars, music venues and speakeasies. Hong Kong stands out for its cocktail culture and high-quality bars, with a increasingly sought-after scene, while Athens is enjoying a new era thanks to underground electronic music, outdoor parties and a strong cocktail culture.

In Madrid the night stretches into the early hours among clubs, drag venues, cocktail bars and listening bars, while Hanoi earns top marks mainly for the strong sense of community that characterizes its nightlife. Seoul is reinventing its nightlife by pairing the tradition of the soju speakeasy, non-alcoholic cocktails and immersive venues; Bengaluru, in India, is experiencing a rapidly growing scene between cocktail bars, jazz clubs and small music venues.
