St Andrews Lakes: The Water Paradise Near London

July 26, 2026

Sometimes the most surprising places arise from transformations capable of rewriting the fate of a space: this is the case of St Andrews Lakes, in Kent, a large artificial lake set in the English countryside that today appears as a perfect escape from daily life, suspended between blue water, artificial beaches, outdoor sports, relaxation and adventure.

We are in Halling, in the north of Kent, between the Medway river and Pilgrims Way, an area easily reachable from London: a former quarry has been transformed into a destination for outdoor leisure, where the landscape still preserves the scenic character of the rock faces but reinterprets it as a freshwater reserve with paths for families and even lodges facing the lake.

What to do at St Andrews Lakes

The liveliest heart of St Andrews Lakes is undoubtedly the inflatable water park, considered the largest in Kent: the experience is that of a vast water playground, rich in obstacles, slides, climbs, trampolines, monkey bars, boardwalks and even a giant swing. If you prefer to move at a calmer pace, you can opt for paddleboard and kayak, with lessons designed for beginners.

For a more scenographic experience, there’s the zip wire that lets you soar above the lake and observe from above the water, the beach and the activities underway: the thrill is there, yet accessible and perfect for anyone seeking to take home a truly spectacular memory.

If you prefer to stay on dry land, know that outdoor activities are not lacking, from a climbing wall to archery, up to axe throwing: you can tailor a day, mixing aquatic activities with bursts of sport and moments of rest, energy and relaxation.

The lake’s most relaxing side

Despite its adventurous spirit, St Andrews Lakes isn’t designed solely for sprinting, climbing or slipping on the water: the artificial beach and the shores are ideal for sunbathing, reading, chatting or watching those having fun at the water park.

Do you love swimming in natural surroundings? Then the open water swimming, with all the charm of open waters and the surrounding nature, adds a more essential and regenerating experience, a way of living swimming tied to the landscape and the sensation of immersing yourself in an open space.

One of the most interesting offerings is the Wellness Centre, an outdoor Nordic-inspired spa that mirrors the lake, featuring a hot tub, a wood-fired sauna and a pool within the natural lagoon: sessions of 1 hour and a half, 3 hours or day passes are available, while the wellness center is reserved for adults.

A perfect destination for everyone

For families with children and teenagers, St Andrews Lakes offers diverse activities designed for all ages: beyond the main aqua park, there is also a dedicated kids aqua park for the little ones.

During the summer holidays, there are also Multi-Activity Days for youths aged 8 to 16, with supervised outdoor activities by qualified instructors: the days may include kayaking, paddleboarding, climbing, archery, sailing and axe throwing, with programs adapted to the group and weather conditions.

At the same time, St Andrews Lakes is suitable for groups of friends, parties, corporate days or a day trip outside London full of fun.
