What It’s About
Six months after the events that ended the first season, we find Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) grappling with the effort to reclaim the family ranch. Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly) is also facing a difficult moment: having returned from New York, where she went to pursue the dream of playing with the philharmonic orchestra, she no longer knows if living in Ransom Canyon is truly what she wants for her future.
The strong bond between the two leads remains unchanged, as do the circumstances—and the choices—that make their love difficult. Around Staten and Quinn, the lives of the other residents of Ransom Canyon also advance in directions sometimes unexpected.
Where the Series Was Filmed
The small town in central Texas where the series is set remains in this second season of Ransom Canyon a kind of character in its own right: the ranches, the nature parks, and the hills that gradually slope to give rise to landscapes that are truly unique add narrative depth to the story.
Ransom Canyon 2 was not actually filmed in the Texas Hill Country: to recreate the landscapes of this picturesque region, which lies off the more touristy circuits of the United States, in addition to studio shooting, the production turned to several locations in New Mexico.
New Mexico
Among the places where the second season was shot is Albuquerque. Among the larger and more important—at least from an economic, commercial, and social point of view—within New Mexico, the city is increasingly appearing on the small screen—here, for example, was filmed the new series by the creators of Stranger Things: The Boroughs—especially when the stories told are about ranchers and cowboys.
Elsewhere in Albuquerque, cultures as diverse as Hispanic and Native American continue to meet every day, giving rise to a unique way of life. No less exceptional are landscapes and panoramas such as the Sandia Mountains with their peaks that dominate, or the Rio Grande cutting through one of the world’s most distinctive desert regions.
Other landscapes easily recognizable in the series’ shots include Mora County: a region in the northwestern part of New Mexico, famous for its plains, rivers (the name itself comes from the Mora River), and the greenery that dominates it. Carson National Forest, with its conifer forests and clear streams and lakes, is among those loved by hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts or simply anyone seeking to reconnect with nature.
Other locations for Ransom Canyon 2 are found within San Miguel County. Located still in the northwestern area of New Mexico, this zone is marked by the presence of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains: the wide canyons carved by streams and the mesas—the iconic flat-topped rocks rising above the landscape—are the most characteristic feature of the local scenery.
Here, just a short distance from Santa Fe where additional scenes of the second season were filmed, lies the remains of the Pecos Pueblo: an ancient village inhabited by Towa-speaking Native Americans that was among the first to resist the presence of Spanish conquistadors.
