Recently it has been noted that summer tourism tends, too often, to concentrate in a few famous locations, neglecting others of equal beauty. Croatia has, for several years now, become an exemplary summer destination, even if not on par with Spanish or Greek islands, and yet here there is a small cove that in 2026 officially entered among the most beautiful beaches in Europe.
It is Podrače Beach, in Brela, right on the Dalmatian coast: in the Europe’s 50 Best Beaches 2026 ranking by The World’s 50 Best Beaches, it earned the 14th place, ahead of numerous seaside locations that are much more famous. The ranking was created based on votes from over 1,000 travel industry professionals, including judges, Beach Ambassadors, and members of the ranking team.
What to do and see at Podrače Beach
Podrače is a small pebble bay, nestled among rocks and Mediterranean vegetation, with turquoise and crystal-clear water. The location, a short distance from the famous Punta Rata, contributes to its secluded appearance that has made it one of Croatia’s most photographed beaches. The main reason to reach Podrače is therefore the sea. The beach also offers some facilities, including sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets, and a bar (ideal, thus, also for those traveling with family).
One of the most distinctive elements is undoubtedly the large rock formation that guards the bay. It is not only a dramatic backdrop: according to local history, in the past the summit of the rock was used for artisanal salt production. Seawater was collected in small pools and left to evaporate, enabling the recovery of salt intended for domestic use.
In addition to snorkeling and lounging on the beach, it is worth noting that the stretch of coast around Brela allows you to alternate a few hours on the small Podrače with a stroll along the promenade and the discovery of other coves in the area. The entire Brela coastline is also characterized by this distinctive combination of white pebbles, crystal-clear sea, and Mediterranean pine forests, shaped over time by the Biokovo (the great mountain range of Dalmatia), by rainfall, and by the sea.
Where it is located and how to reach Podrače Beach
Podrače Beach is situated in Brela, in the Dalmatia region, along the Makarska Riviera. For those arriving by car, Brela is connected to the Dalmatian coastal road network. From Split the route covers about 50 kilometers and typically takes around an hour of travel, depending on traffic. Once in Brela, you must leave the car in the available parking areas and continue on foot toward the coast: Podrače is a beach reached via the walking paths of the area.
It is also possible to reach it by public transport. From Split there are direct bus connections to Brela and the journey lasts about an hour. From the stop on the main road you then continue on foot toward the center and the coastal area as well.
