The Travel Trends According to Expedia for 2027

Beyond the emerging destinations, the Unpack ’27: The Trends in Travel report identifies several new habits set to influence next year’s vacations.

Among these there is Un-Adulting, i.e., the desire to rediscover the carefree spirit of childhood through playful experiences, immersive attractions and nostalgic activities. According to Expedia, 57% of travelers are likely to book such a trip in 2027.

The Trip Snacking trend is also strengthening, the tendency to take short, frequent getaways, even for just one night, to attend a show, celebrate a special occasion or simply break from the routine. Hotels.com notes an increase of nearly 10% in searches for one-night stays.

Another trend is gothic-style escapes, featuring historic hotels, castles and evocative architecture: 56% of those surveyed say they have booked a property precisely for its atmosphere or aesthetics.

Set-Jetting continues to grow as well, i.e., the choice to travel to places seen in films and TV series. Finally, Vrbo highlights interest in vacations organized around a personal passion (68% of those surveyed say they are likely to undertake a trip dedicated to a hobby in 2027) and growing interest in inland destinations.
