Traveling aboard one of the world’s most famous trains, crossing spectacular landscapes and atmospheres that seem to belong to another era, is now possible. From 2027 this dream will have a new destination: Monte Carlo. The legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express by Belmond will reach the Principality of Monaco for the first time, adding an exclusive stop to its European itineraries.
The novelty, officially announced by Belmond, will debut on May 10, 2027 with a Paris-to-Côte d’Azur journey, destined to become an annual appointment. An experience that blends the charm of bygone rail travel with the allure of the French Riviera, featuring Art Deco carriages, Mediterranean landscapes and luxurious services.
The new 2027 itinerary of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express
The journey will begin in Paris, where guests will board the distinctive midnight-blue carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, true jewels of European railway history. After departure, the experience will continue within the train’s elegant interiors, with a dinner served in the Étoile du Nord and L’Oriental dining cars. The evening can continue in the famous Bar Car ‘3674’, featuring cocktails, live piano music and an atmosphere inspired by the golden age of travel.
But the most evocative moment will arrive the following morning, when the train travels along the spectacular Côte d’Azur railway line. After skirting the reddish cliffs of the Esterel Massif, it will pass through the landscapes of Saint-Raphaël, Cannes and Nice, offering views of the Mediterranean. The arrival is planned at the Monaco-Monte Carlo underground station, marking a first for the renowned train. The choice of Monaco as a destination also carries historical significance, since in 1977 two original carriages were auctioned there and helped give birth to the current Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
How much does the Paris-to-Monte Carlo Orient Express journey cost
The new itinerary will be an exclusive experience, designed for those who wish to rediscover the pleasure of slow travel without compromising comfort. Passengers will be able to choose among several accommodations, from Historic Cabins to Suites and Grand Suites, up to L’Observatoire, a private carriage designed by the artist JR, featuring a bedroom, a bathroom with a freestanding tub, a library and a secret tea room.
The price for the Paris-to-Monte Carlo journey will start from €4,870 per person, based on two guests sharing a Historic Cabin. The fare includes overnight onboard, 24-hour steward service, meals, a selection of wines, unlimited non-alcoholic beverages, and transfers.
Additionally, it should be noted that this novelty accompanies the second season of Villeggiatura by Train, Belmond’s program dedicated to Italian itineraries, which combines journeys on the famous train with stays in extraordinary properties in Venice, Florence, Portofino and the Amalfi Coast.
