Name a Plane After a Loved One: How to Participate

September 26, 2026

There are people who, with their presence, manage to make even the most complicated days easier, those who are also called “medicine people.” To thank them you can choose to give them a gift, perhaps a bouquet of flowers or a box of cookies, write a heartfelt dedication, or organize a surprise party, but this time we’ve uncovered a decidedly more original idea.

What do you think about naming a special person to an airplane? It’s the opportunity offered by Eurowings, the German low-cost airline that is part of the Lufthansa group, through a new contest open to all residents of Europe.

The initiative aims to celebrate those people who, with kindness, support and attention toward others, manage to make a difference in daily life.

The Eurowings contest to name an airplane

The initiative ‘Give a Name to an Airplane’ is born with the goal of publicly recognizing the people who represent a reference point for those around them.

It doesn’t have to be a famous person: it can be family members, friends, or anyone who, through small daily gestures, makes life easier for others.

The contest draws on the very nature of air travel. According to Max Kownatzki, CEO of Eurowings, indeed, each aircraft helps connect people and bring them closer to those who matter most. Hence the idea of turning an airplane into a kind of special dedication, with the given name of a person chosen by participants appearing on an Airbus A320.

Practical information for participation

Applications for “Who makes your life easier?” can be submitted by October 11, 2026 through the form on the official Eurowings website on the page dedicated to the contest.

To nominate someone you must be at least 18 years old and reside in Europe. Each participant may submit only one application. The submission must be accompanied by a text between 250 and 400 characters, in which you explain how and why the person named manages to simplify your life.

It is therefore necessary to choose the person to nominate with care and above all tell in a few lines the reason why they deserve this recognition. The contest does not aim to reward an exceptional gesture or a particular notoriety, but seeks to highlight those small daily actions that often make a difference.

The prize is truly unusual: four Airbus A320 aircraft of Eurowings will bear the given names of the selected individuals. The shortlisted candidates will be revealed between mid and late October 2026, while the officially chosen names will then be unveiled in December.

The company therefore invites you to think of the person who is there when needed, who knows how to listen, support, motivate, or simply lighten a difficult day. A way to turn a simple dedication into something that will travel much farther, across Europe’s skies.
