Mushroom Festivals 2026 in Italy: Where to Go and When to Visit

September 12, 2026

As Autumn approaches, the Italian forests begin to fill again with unmistakable scents, colors, and flavors. It is the mushroom season, and from North to South there are many mushroom festivals and fairs that celebrate porcini and other species of the undergrowth with traditional dishes, mycological exhibitions, excursions, and original initiatives dedicated to discovering the territory.

We have selected 12 mushroom fairs and events to mark on your calendar for autumn 2026: some are historic appointments, others feature special formats that allow you to explore the landscapes where these excellences come to life.

Festival of Mushrooms and the Environment in Budoia (PN)

Two weekends to celebrate mushrooms, but also the nature and traditions of the area: from 11 to 13 and from 18 to 20 September 2026, the Festival of Mushrooms and the Environment of Budoia (in the Province of Pordenone, Friuli-Venezia Giulia) reaches its 57th edition in 2026, with themed cuisine, a mycological exhibition, markets, excursions, and the traditional Mushroom Walk.

Among this year’s events there are also new guided walks along the foothill routes and a hands-on session with mycologists to learn how to recognise the different species in their habitat.

40th Mushroom Festival of Trontano (VB)

Among the Ossola mountains, the Mushroom Festival of Trontano (Verbano-Ciccio-Ossola) marks an important anniversary: in 2026 it reaches its 40th edition. From 18 to 20 September, the star of the show is the king of mushrooms: the porcino, celebrated with dishes such as mushroom risotto, but also with music, exhibitions, crafts, and activities for the whole family.

Sunday is the most spectacular moment, with the grand parade of the districts through floats and costumes. And to reach the festival without a car, there is a particularly evocative option: the special trains of the Ferrovia Vigezzina-Centovalli.

Fungolandia in Alta Valle Brembana (BG)

Not just a festival, but an entire week to enter the world of mushrooms in Lombardy. Fungolandia returns in 2026 with a new format, longer and richer in events, following the preview days at the start of September. From 18 to 27 September there are planned walks with the mycologists, tastings, menus in valley restaurants, nature and cultural events, and the Showcase of the Mushroom of the Brembana Valley.

Sagra del Fungo Porcino a Motta Visconti (MI)

Even just a short distance from Milan, you can sample porcino: for those who want to experience the autumn festival atmosphere without straying far from the Lombard capital, there is Motta Visconti. The Sagra del Fungo Porcino returns 25–27 September with its 49th edition. It is the perfect occasion to taste mushroom-focused specialties and, at the same time, discover a territory set in the landscape of the Ticino Park. A wonderful idea for a day trip as the colors of autumn begin to appear in the woods.

Fiera del Fungo Porcino di Borgotaro IGP a Borgo Val di Taro (PR)

In Borgo Val di Taro, the mushroom is not merely a specialty, but a true territorial identity. The Fiera del Fungo di Borgotaro IGP (celebrating 30 years of European protection), now in its 51st edition, for two weekends brings the town center a mycological fair, market, street food, showcooking, and events dedicated to the excellence of the Apennines.

Note the dates: 19–20 and 26–27 September 2026. In the 2026 program return the “Scaglia d’Oro” prize dedicated to mountain Parmigiano Reggiano and the “Il Porcino in Cucina” competition.

Fiera Nazionale del Fungo Porcino ad Albareto (PR)

A few days after the Borgotaro fair, the porcino once again takes center stage in the Upper Taro Valley: 2–4 October 2026 sees Albareto hosting the 29th National Porcino Mushroom Fair: three days of gastronomy, nature and traditions, with a mycological exhibition, gastronomic stalls, street food, markets, showcooking, and music, plus many opportunities to discover the forest and the territory.

Among the initiatives are forest walks, E-Bike excursions, and visits to the Mushroom Museum, while for the little ones a real School for Young Mushroom Foragers has been organized, together with a Kids Area featuring games and activities.

Cagli All-Mushroom Festival in the Upper Marche (PU)

In Cagli, a picturesque medieval town in the Upper Marche, the undergrowth takes center stage at the Cagli All-Mushroom Festival, scheduled for 26 and 27 September. Here the mushroom is not only the porcini: alongside the best-known varieties, local tradition also celebrates turini and spignoli, turning the festival into an occasion to discover a culinary culture deeply linked to the territory.

32nd Porcino Mushroom Festival at Colle di Fuori (RM)

Launched in the first weekend of September but continuing through the month, from 11 to 13 and from 18 to 20 September, the unmissable event is the Porcino Mushroom Festival of Colle di Fuori, Rocca Priora, Rome. The festival offers traditional dishes, music, crafts, and family activities, with the chance to pair a meal with walks in the greenery of the Parco dei Castelli Romani.

In 2026 there is also a practical novelty: the “Less Wait, More Festival” system, which lets visitors order and pay via QR code directly from their smartphone.

XXI Sagra del Fungo Porcino in Oriolo Romano (VT)

In the heart of the Tuscia, in the historic center of Oriolo Romano (Viterbo), between Palazzo Altieri and Piazza Umberto I, the porcino returns to be the star of the XXI Sagra del Fungo Porcino, scheduled 11–13 and 18–20 September 2026. Two weekends of flavors, music, and entertainment that transform the village into a must-visit destination for lovers of good dining.

The fettuccine with porcini are among the festival’s emblematic dishes and definitely worth trying, but the menu also features other traditional specialties. Those on a gluten-free diet can also enjoy the offerings: thanks to a collaboration with the Lazio Italian Celiac Association, a dedicated gluten-free menu is available.

Every evening features live music, while the program also includes games, bouncy castles, workshops, and children’s shows, making the event family-friendly. It’s a festival to pair with a visit to the village and the forests of the Monti Sabatini, particularly evocative when summer gives way to the first autumn colors.

28th Sagra del Fungo Porcino di Castelpagano (BN)

In the Sannio, porcino mushrooms take center stage at a festival that in 2026 reaches its 28th edition: the Castelpagano Porcino Mushroom Festival (Benevento), which from 18–20 and 25–27 September lights up Piazza Municipio with porcini-based dishes, pizza, street food, and the curious Aperifungo, as well as music and events.

The festival is also a chance to explore the territory: Castelpagano is surrounded by large wooded areas and the program includes nature-focused activities and the evocative Via dei Briganti.

57th Sagra del Fungo in Camigliatello Silano (CS)

One must wait until October to reach Calabria, where the Sila forests begin to glow with warmer colors. In Camigliatello Silano, the Mushroom Festival reaches its 57th edition in 2026 and is part of the Autumn in Sila calendar, a festival circuit that accompanies the entire season. On 10 and 11 October, the porcino meets the flavors of Silan cuisine and one of Italy’s most enchanting mountain landscapes: a perfect pairing for a weekend in nature, savoring the best of tradition.

25th Sagra del Suino Nero e del Fungo Porcino di Cesarò (ME)

The final stop heads to Sicily, in the heart of the Nebrodi, for an event that pairs two stars of Sardinian fors—no, Sicilian mountain cuisine: the porcino mushroom and the Nebrodi’s Nero pig. From 8 to 16 November 2026 Cesarò’s festival offers rustic dishes such as pasta with porcini, Nero pig sausages, involtini, and roasts paired with local wines, turning the village into a gourmet fair with stands, gastronomic workshops, traditional music, craft exhibitions, and performances. A date to add to your calendar, also perfect for discovering the Nebrodi landscapes, with forests and panoramas that take on a particularly evocative atmosphere.
