On Sunday, September 13, the schedule of historic trains in Lombardy resumes, the initiative that allows visitors to admire some of the region’s most evocative landscapes aboard vintage trains. After the success recorded between April and June 2026 (with about a thousand passengers choosing to live the experience), Trenord therefore offers eight new dates dedicated to itineraries toward Como, Laveno Mombello and Lake Maggiore, Asso and Lake Iseo, to combine the discovery of the territory with sustainable mobility.
The restored carriages, period furnishings, and on-board activities recreate a captivating atmosphere inspired by the 1920s.
A journey through history aboard vintage carriages
Part of the runs will be operated with a consist composed of three first-class AZ carriages, distinguished by the numbers 130, 136 and 137 and built in 1924-1925. To complete the consist will be the electric locomotive FNM E610-04, built in 1949, and the electric locomotive FNM E600-3, built in 1928.
The vehicles have been finely restored with the support of Ferrovienord and will depart from Milano Cadorna, reaching during the days scheduled by the program destinations such as Laveno Mombello, Como and Asso. The route toward Novara is also included in the travel calendar with the historic train.
Passengers will travel in carriages with cardinal red velvet seats and wooden interiors, finding themselves immersed in an ambiance that evokes the 1920s. During the journey, there will also be characters in period costumes, musicians and voices engaged in artistic and theatrical performances.
From Lake Como to Lake Maggiore, the proposed itineraries
The first autumn appointment is set for Sunday, September 13, with the journey from Milano Cadorna to Como Lago. The following week, Sunday, September 20, the historic train will instead reach Laveno Mombello Lago, for an itinerary tied to the Lake Maggiore area.
The schedule will then continue with the trip to Asso, planned for Sunday, October 4, while Como will return to the spotlight with three more dates, on October 18, November 8 and November 22.
In addition to itineraries operated with the vintage train, there are also two runs along the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo line, which runs along Lake Iseo and, in this case, the historic ALn 668-125 railcar, built in 1979 and now restored, will be the protagonist.
The first trip on Lake Iseo is scheduled for Sunday, September 27 and will connect Rovato FN and Pisogne, while the calendar’s final appointment, Sunday, December 13, will take passengers from Rovato to Iseo.
Dates of the upcoming historic trips
The calendar proposed by Trenord includes eight appointments between September and December 2026. It begins on September 13 with Milano Cadorna-Como Lago, followed on September 20 by the Milan Cadorna-Laveno Mombello Lago connection. On September 27 a route Rovato FN-Pisogne will be dedicated.
On Sunday, October 4 the Milan Cadorna-Asso section will be up, while October 18 and November 8 will bring trips back to Como Lago. A further appointment to the same destination is planned for November 22. Finally, on December 13 the calendar will conclude with the Rovato FN-Iseo journey.
Special tickets for the initiative are available for purchase via the Trenord website and app. The package includes the round-trip travel on the historic trains and, for travelers coming from other Lombardy locations, also the outbound-and-return connection on Trenord trains across Lombardy to Milan or Rovato and to the stations where the historic vehicles stop.
