Flying is certainly not the most convenient option for Italian travelers. While there is an airport right on the island, it does not offer direct routes to Italy. However, you can consider landing at nearby airports and from there proceed by renting a car or, if available, using public transport.

How to reach by bus from Trieste
From Italy, the only bus that easily gets you to Krk Island departs from Trieste. The service is provided by the company Arriva Croatia, which connects Trieste daily to the Veglia bus station (Krk), the island’s terminus.
The journey lasts an estimated 3 to 5 hours, depending on traffic and the time spent at border controls, which can increase significantly in high season. Although ticket prices vary, you can take advantage of special discounts by booking via the official app. Once you arrive in Veglia, it is easy to move toward the other towns, ports and tourist locations on the island using local buses or taxis.
How to reach by car
Getting to Krk Island by car from Italy is the most convenient solution, especially for those who want to explore Croatia with total freedom. Thanks to the Krk Bridge, which connects the island to the mainland, there is no need to rely on ferries: simply follow the motorways that cross Friuli Venezia Giulia, enter Slovenia (by purchasing the highway vignette) and continue toward Rijeka (Rijeka), until you reach the bridge.
The journey is scenic and well signposted, with travel times varying from about 2.5 hours from Trieste up to 7–8 hours from cities like Milan or Bologna. Traveling by car offers the great advantage of managing your schedule, stopping at places along the way, and once on the island, moving easily between coves, historic villages and secluded beaches.
