There are journeys where the destination begins to take shape long before you arrive, and this is the case with the historic Milano-Alba Truffle and Wine train, offered by Itinerari d’autore in autumn 2026 to accompany passengers from Milan to the heart of the Langhe, a period particularly evocative for discovering the Piedmont region.
The meeting point is at Milano Centrale, from which the train will head toward Alba, crossing Piedmont aboard the iconic Gran Confort carriages. The dates are October 11, 18 and 25, three Sundays in the midst of the autumn season.
From Milan to the Langhe on board the Gran Confort carriages
The journey starts in Milan and, as the train moves away from the city, the landscape yields to a territory enriched by hills, vineyards and villages, until it reaches the Langhe, a region recognized as UNESCO World Heritage.
The route is also made special by the train chosen for the occasion with the iconic Gran Confort carriages, considered a symbol of Italian railway elegance. The spacious and quiet interiors, along with the wide armchairs and large windows, allow one to experience the trip at a slower, more relaxed pace.
From the window, the rolling hills and the rows of vines accompany the eye as the train proceeds toward Alba, offering a new perspective on the Piedmontese landscape.
A journey dedicated to the flavors of the Langhe
The theme of the itinerary is woven into its very name: “Tartufo e Vino.” Autumn is, in fact, linked in the journey’s narrative to the culinary excellence of the Langhe, a territory where landscape and the culture of taste are deeply intertwined.
Around the train there are tasting moments devoted to Piedmontese flavors that thus become part of the experience even during the journey, before reaching Alba.
The trip therefore takes on a sensory dimension: on one side, the passing landscape; on the other, the products that tell the local tradition.
Alba among markets, enotecas, and artisan shops
Once in Alba, travelers can freely explore the Capital of the Langhe and its surroundings, fully enjoying the autumn atmosphere of the Langhe.
Alba is one of the emblematic cities of Piedmontese tradition and offers the opportunity to connect with a culture of taste that is expressed through seasonal markets, historic enotecas, artisan workshops, and tasting experiences.
October adds even more charm to the city, especially for its link with the truffle and the great wines from the area. The journey aboard the historic train and the stay in Alba become a complete experience: the train introduces the landscapes and flavors of the Langhe, while the city allows a deeper immersion into its atmosphere and traditions.
