Cruises 2027 and 2028: New Ships and Routes to Inspire You

November 1, 2026

The world of cruises is preparing for a two-year period filled with novelties, with the debut of new ships, unprecedented itineraries, and routes that promise to lead travelers to spectacular destinations. From the Mediterranean to the most remote islands of Polynesia, passing through the Arctic, the Antarctic, Japan, and the Caribbean, the cruise lines are already unveiling programs for 2027 and 2028, focusing on increasingly diverse experiences.

A Cruise Celebrates Pan Am’s 100th Anniversary

Among the most distinctive itineraries for 2027 is the Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage, a 28-day journey that will pay tribute to the historic Pan Am airline on its centennial. The departure is scheduled for October 30, 2027 from Miami, Florida, with a route that retraces some of the airline’s former routes between the Caribbean and Central America.

The program includes talks by industry historians, brand-inspired gastronomic proposals, and even the reconstruction of the Clipper Club, the famous private airport lounges associated with Pan Am.

Princess Cruises on the Amazon River

For the first time since 2014, Princess Cruises will return to navigating the Amazon River with a 64-day cruise aboard the Coral Princess, circumnavigating South America and even reaching Antarctica, with a passage through the Panama Canal.

In South America, Majestic Princess will also be featured, with 13 departures and 11 total itineraries. The Panama Canal will also be crossed by four other ships in the fleet: Crown Princess, Island Princess, Ruby Princess, and Star Princess, with journeys lasting between 16 and 20 days.

Disney Believe, New Disney Ship

Disney Cruise Line has announced Disney Believe, the fourth and final unit of the Wish class, slated to debut on December 18, 2027. The theme chosen is Promise and Possibility, a tribute to faith in one’s dreams and the capacity to believe in oneself, with nods to beloved stories such as Encanto, Frozen, Moana, and The Little Mermaid.

The inaugural itineraries include four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean, departing from Port Everglades, in Fort Lauderdale; among the stops are the Disney private islands, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay.

New Princess Cruises Routes

For 2027, Princess Cruises offers a broad Alaska program, with eight ships, 187 departures and 17 different itineraries. Among the highlights will be Star Princess, which will offer seven-night cruises in the Inside Passage with departures from and returns to Seattle.

The trips will allow guests to admire some of the most spectacular natural scenery in North America, including Glacier Bay National Park, Hubbard Glacier, College Fjord, and Endicott Arm with the Dawes Glacier.

Great attention is also given to Japan: for 2027 there are 78 departures across 50 itineraries, while in 2028 the offering will grow to 85 departures and 52 itineraries, ranging from seven to 29 days.

Ponant Expands Its Itineraries

Also Ponant Explorations, the French luxury cruise company marketed in Italy by Gioco Viaggi, looks ahead to 2027-2028 with a renewed program: nearly 70 trips are planned across 28 itineraries, nine of which are new, spanning Asia, the Philippines, Polynesia, Japan, the Caribbean, and polar regions.

For 2028, more than 150 departures are planned across the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and the Atlantic, with more than 80 of them in the Mediterranean. Antarctica will be a highlight of the 2028-2029 season, with over 30 departures aboard Le Boréal, Le Lyrial, Le Soléal, and Le Commandant Charcot.

The Bahamas and the Northern Caribbean will also feature, with four departures between January and February 2028 aboard Le Champlain. The Arctic, meanwhile, will see more than 35 departures between May and October 2028, with four ships operating in the region.

Norwegian Aura in the Mediterranean

Norwegian Cruise Line is set to present Norwegian Aura with two inaugural Mediterranean cruises: the first will depart on May 2, 2027 from Trieste and reach Athens after ten days; the second will depart from the Greek capital on May 12, arriving in Trieste after nine days.

A further seven-night itinerary will follow, departing Trieste on May 21 and arriving in Barcelona, passing through Valletta, Salerno, and Rome. From there the ship will cross the Atlantic with a 13-day crossing to Miami, before launching weekly Eastern Caribbean cruises from June to October 2027.

Aranoa Explores Polynesia

From March 6, 2027, Aranoa will enter service, reaching the Austral Islands, the southernmost archipelago of French Polynesia, visiting Rimatara, Rurutu, Tubuai, Raivavae, and Rapa, territories still lightly touched by tourism, ideal for those dreaming of discovering a more secluded face of the Pacific.

The New Ships of 2027, Between Luxury and Big Attractions

Carnival Festivale will begin its voyage on May 2, 2027, with a 15-day Atlantic crossing from Southampton, after which it will be based year-round at Port Canaveral, Florida.

At the end of May, the Orient Express Olympian, a sailing superyacht, will inaugurate the season in the Western Mediterranean before moving to Northern Europe in July. In June, Emerald Raiya will debut, and after the Greek isles and the Turkish coast, she will navigate the Adriatic and the Eastern Mediterranean, before crossing the Red Sea in December and spending the winter in the Seychelles.

On August 7, 2027, the inaugural voyage of Oceania Sonata will depart from Civitavecchia, a 14-day cruise heading to Trieste across the Mediterranean.

Hero of the Seas and MSC World Atlantic, Giants of the Sea

Among the most anticipated debuts is Hero of the Seas from Royal Caribbean, the fourth unit of the Icon class: the inaugural voyage is scheduled for August 11, 2027, with a three-night cruise from Miami to the Bahamas, preceded by two additional departures starting August 1. It will then offer weekly itineraries in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, always featuring a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, the company’s private island.

In November 2027 it will be MSC World Atlantic entering service, the fourth ship in the World Class after World Europa, World America, and World Asia.

Explora V, MSC’s Luxury

The MSC group also expands its luxury offering with Explora V, arriving at the end of 2027: the initial cruises will focus on the Mediterranean during the winter season, with itineraries between Southern Europe and North Africa. Early 2028 will see the ship continue toward the Atlantic islands.
