Piedmont is gearing up for another day dedicated to exploring its extraordinary historical and architectural heritage: on Sunday, July 26, Castelli Aperti returns, the well-established event that allows visitors to tour castles, villas, historic palaces, museums, and ancient villages not always accessible to the public.
For this occasion too, dozens of residences will be involved, spread across several Piedmont provinces, with a program that includes guided tours, extraordinary openings, museums, panoramic towers, and ancient villages, many of which boast collections, historic gardens, and particularly interesting routes.
From the Hills of Monferrato to the Castles of Alessandria
The province of Alessandria offers an itinerary that touches some of the most evocative areas of Monferrato: in Acqui Terme it will be possible to visit the Castle of the Paleologi, home to the Civic Archaeological Museum, while Villa Ottolenghi Wedekind will open its doors with guided tours by reservation.
Among the planned openings is also the Castle Estate of Razzano in Alfiano Natta, where visitors will be able to discover the Artevino Museum and the historic aging cellars, the Gipsoteca Giulio Monteverde in Bistagno, and the Museum of Sacred Art in Cassine.
Not to be missed are some of the region’s most representative castles, such as the Castle of Sannazzaro in Giarole, the Castle of Rocca Grimalda, which pairs a visit with a wine tasting, and the Castle of Trisobbio, where it will be possible to climb the panoramic tower. The program also includes visits to the villages of Ozzano Monferrato and Rosignano Monferrato, in addition to openings of Palazzo Terzano in Valenza and of the Elisabeth de Rothschild Foundation housed at Palazzo Lignana di Rivalta Bormida.
Asti, between medieval towers and exhibitions
The province of Asti also participates with a program that highlights the local historical heritage: in Castagnole delle Lanze the Tower of Count Ballada of Saint Robert will be visitable, while in Castelnuovo Calcea the castle area will open free of charge.
In Costigliole d’Asti it will be possible to enter the Castle of Rorà, which until August 30 also hosts an exhibition dedicated to the artists Gabriella Piccatto and Barbara Corbucci. The towers of San Giorgio Scarampi and Viarigi complete a route that allows the countryside to be observed from particularly evocative vantage points.
From Biellese to the Langhe, historic palaces and emblematic castles
In Biella the event engages some of the province’s emblematic sites: in Biella you can visit Palazzo Gromo Losa and Palazzo La Marmora, while the famous Ricetto di Candelo will offer the chance to stroll through its extraordinary medieval village or take part in guided tours.
Among the other openings are Villa Flecchia in Magnano, which houses the Enrico Collection, and Palazzo dei Principi in Masserano, accessible with a guided tour.
The Province of Cuneo Takes the Spotlight
The province of Cuneo presents one of the broadest programs of the day, with visits ranging from the civic museums of Alba, Bra, Dronero and Savigliano to some of Piedmont’s most well-known castles.
Among these, the Falletti Castle of Barolo stands out with the WIMU Wine Museum, one of the main attractions dedicated to wine culture. The Royal Castle of Govone, the Castle of La Manta, the Castle of the Princes d’Acaja in Fossano, the Castle of Roddi and the Castle of Serralunga d’Alba will also open, offering many guided tours throughout the day.
Elevating the program, the historic villages will play a key role, with openings of the Borgo Antico e Castello di Pamparato and the medieval village of Priero, while Saluzzo will offer a genuine cultural itinerary among Casa Cavassa, La Castiglia, the Torre Civica, Villa Belvedere Radicati, and the Birth House of Silvio Pellico.
To complete the program, the Museum of General Bonaparte in the Castle of Mombasiglio, the Museum of the House of Mondovì, the Castle of the Alfieri in Magliano Alfieri, and numerous other sites distributed across the territory.
Novarese and Torinese, noble residences and grand castles
In the Novarese it will be possible to participate in guided tours of the Castle of Dal Pozzo in Oleggio Castello, while the Fondazione Antonio e Carmela Calderara in Vacciago di Ameno will offer free openings. The Castle of Vinzaglio will also be visitable by reservation.
The province of Turin also presents a particularly rich calendar: among the openings are Villa Il Meleto in Agliè, the historic residence of Guido Gozzano, the Castle of the Four Towers in Arignano, and the Castle of Castelguelfo in Pessione, which can also be admired with a combined ticket.
Also accessible will be the Castle and Park of Masino, the Castle of Foglizzo, Casa Lajolo in Piossasco, the Castle of Pralormo and the Castle of Miradolo in San Secondo di Pinerolo, historic residences set within parks and gardens of indisputable landscape value.
