The offering of the FS Foundation’s historic trains expands with two new special itineraries that, in autumn 2026, will guide visitors to discover some of the most representative areas of Piedmont and Lombardy. The new links, scheduled between October and November, combine the charm of journeys aboard vintage trains with the enhancement of local food and wine excellences.
These are the Milano-Alba and Torino-Canelli connections, both designed to offer a day exploring the Langhe, Monferrato, and their traditional productions. Aboard the historic carriages, tastings and in-depth moments dedicated to local products are planned, with the aim of making the journey an integral part of the tourist experience.
The Milano-Alba Historic Train Through Langhe, Truffles, and Wine
The first appointment is with the Milano-Alba historic train, which will run on Sundays October 11, 18 and 25, 2026. The carriage will depart from Milano Centrale station at 9:05, reaching Alba at 12:35, following a route that passes through Pavia, Alessandria, and Asti. The return trip is scheduled to depart Alba at 18:20 and arrive at Milano Centrale at 22:00.
The initiative is planned in one of the period’s most meaningful times for the Langhe area, when autumn makes the landscape colors glow and coincides with the truffle season and the wine productions that have made the region internationally famous.
The onboard experience will take place aboard the unmistakable Gran Confort carriages from the 1970s, historic trains characterized by large windows and a high level of comfort. The choice of carriages aims to highlight slow travel and to offer passengers the chance to observe the scenery along the journey and gradually immerse themselves in the Langhe atmosphere.
During the journey, there will be tastings of seasonal products and moments dedicated to telling the Nebbiolo story, one of the region’s emblematic grape varieties, with an introductory path to the excellence awaiting upon arrival in Alba.
Turin-Canelli on the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato Railway
In November, the historic Turin-Canelli train will take the spotlight, scheduled on Sundays November 1, 8, 15, and 22, 2026. The train will connect Torino Porta Nuova with Canelli, making stops also at Torino Lingotto, Bra, and Alba, along a route shaped by hills, vineyards, and villages.
The historic Centoporte carriages from the 1920s will be used, a symbol of Italy’s railway tradition. Also in this case the on-board program includes tastings and masterclasses dedicated to the region’s wines, to local products, and to the sparkling culture of Alta Langa and Monferrato.
Furthermore, on Sunday November 1 the train will be hauled by a steam locomotive, and for this inaugural run dedicated schedules have been prepared: departure from Torino Porta Nuova at 8:55, arriving in Canelli at 11:29. The return will depart at 18:12, reaching Torino Porta Nuova at 21:15.
On the following Sundays, November 8, 15 and 22, the program will follow a different timetable. Departure from Torino Porta Nuova remains at 8:55, while arrival in Canelli is scheduled for 10:43. The return trip will depart at 18:15, arriving in the Piedmont capital at 20:20.
