A villa designed by Palladio, an old inn tucked between the Austrian mountains, and a vineyard estate where you wake up surrounded by vines. They seem like addresses reserved for special occasions, yet the Michelin Guide has included them in its selection of the most affordable “Key” hotels. Yes, because hospitality excellence isn’t necessarily synonymous with soaring prices (some rooms can reach up to €5,000 per night) and extreme luxury, but also with a compelling quality/price ratio offered by several European properties and beyond.
Among the six European hotels chosen, with rates ranging from €130 to €220 per night, one Italian address stands out.
The Italian hotel chosen by the Michelin Guide
Italy is the European country with the largest number of hotels awarded the Michelin Key in 2026: with 224 properties honored, it ranks second worldwide, only behind the United States.
Among the 2026 Michelin Keys, the Guide highlights as one of the economically more accessible options La Barchessa of Villa Pisani. Located in Bagnolo di Lonigo, in the province of Vicenza, the property has a peculiarity that the name already reveals: the hotel sits within the Villa Pisani estate, designed by Andrea Palladio and part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Vicenza and Palladian Villas of the Veneto.”
The lodging occupies part of the old “barchesse” on the north side of the villa’s main garden, which in the nineteenth century were agricultural buildings once used as granaries and storage depots.
With 15 rooms that blend historic elements, contemporary furnishings, and artworks, plus an outdoor pool, a small wellness area, and a restaurant, it’s a starting point for exploring the Veneto, between villas, art towns and gastronomic itineraries. According to the Michelin Guide, the rates to stay here start at around €155 per night (prices clearly vary by season and should be verified at the time of booking).
The other European hotels recognized for affordability
In France, which is second in Europe in 2026 for the number of Keys received, the hotel Le Clair de la Plume in Grignan, near a medieval castle and lavender landscapes, is highlighted. In addition to pools and a spa, it houses a Michelin-starred restaurant. Excluding a few weeks in July, the price shown by the Guide is about $162 per night.
Heading to the Costa Brava in Spain, we find the Can Mascort Eco Hotel, housed in a historic house with vaulted ceilings and numerous frescoes. It has 15 rooms and a wellness area inspired by Roman baths. Outside peak months, rates typically range between €97 and €158 per night.
For mountain lovers, Austria offers the Neuwirt Hotel & Wirtshaus in Bad Vigaun, a family-run inn that has welcomed guests for over a century. It earned its first Michelin Key in 2026, with rooms starting at around €132 per night.
In Greece, Montanema Handmade Village completely changes the scenery: a small stone-built village of lodgings set in the greenery of Thessaly, featuring a spa with a grotto sauna. In the shoulder seasons, rates rarely exceed €220 per night.
The last European address brings us to the vineyards of the United Kingdom: at Tillingham Winery near Rye, you can sleep in one of 11 rooms carved from a former barn or opt for one of two tents with a terrace and a brazier. Breakfast is included and, barring exceptional high-season periods, prices often stay below €220 per night.
