The Mediaset fiction season kicks off again with the Italian adaptation of Erica, a French TV series inspired by the novels of Camilla Läckberg. For three episodes, aired in prime time on Canale 5 starting from September 2, 2026, Vanessa Incontrada plays a writer of extraordinary intuition rediscovering her roots: amid her adventures is the city where she was born, with its picturesque corners where time seems to have stood still, its expansive sea views, and its coastline stretches among the most beautiful in Italy. What it’s about
Erica Magliani is a highly regarded mystery writer. In a moment of creative crisis, she decides to return to Tuscany, where she was born but has not lived for years. Here, together with her sister, she mainly handles her parents’ estate, at least until the disappearance of someone close to her leads her to become involved in a murder case.
Erica listens to the people involved, observes how they behave, tries to put herself in their shoes: in short, she uses investigative techniques that are decidedly unorthodox and certainly less rigorous and official than those used by Commissioner Leonardo Carrese (Francesco Scianna). A relationship that is as conflictual as it is intense quickly forms between the two, destined to grow stronger as the cases involving Erica multiply and a series of mysteries concerning her family come to light.
Where the series was filmed
Directed by Ciro D’Emilio and produced by 7Verticale with RTI, the new Mediaset fiction starring Vanessa Incontrada was shot in Tuscany with the support of the Tuscany Film Commission. Piombino is, to be precise, the protagonist’s hometown, and here you can find the majority of the locations for Erica – A Detective by Chance.
Piombino
On screen it is easy to recognize, in particular, Piazza Bovio: the splendid sea-facing terrace of Piombino. This square, one of the largest in Italy, with its location and its architecture continues to tell the city’s past so closely tied to the era of the Maritime Republics.
From the viewpoints, one enjoys a magnificent view of Elba, Giglio, the island of Montecristo, and, if conditions permit, even Corsica.
The Marina Port and the Piazza dei Grani, two places much loved by Piombino’s residents and glimpsed in the series, are just a stone’s throw from the square.
From Piazza Bovio one can easily reach the historic center of Piombino, notable for being surrounded by walls attributed—at least in part—to Leonardo da Vinci and dotted with medieval buildings still intact.
The Etruscan Coast
In some sequences of Erica – A Detective by Chance the Etruscan Coast appears with its extraordinary sea views where lush nature blends with history.
This stretch of coast is famous, in fact, for being one of the earliest settlements of the Etruscans—hence the name—that on the Gulf of Baratti built the city of Populonia: today a necropolis among the most fascinating and mysterious in Italy remains.
Besides the beaches, among the most beautiful in Tuscany and suited for trying one of the many fashionable water sports of the moment, in the area are worth visiting the Terme di Vetturina and towns like Suvereto or Sassetta, rightly considered among the most beautiful villages in Tuscany.
