In November, the FAI invites you to rediscover historic towns, castles, woods, and places of great cultural and natural value through a calendar of events, walks, and special meetings. The overarching theme is also climate change, an issue increasingly urgent that the Foundation addresses with the awareness campaign #FAIperilclima.
But November is also rich in many other appointments with the places of Italian culture together with the FAI. In this article we have put together a selection of 5 initiatives on the calendar; the full schedule is available on the official site.
Villa Necchi Campiglio, Milan
Saturday, November 7, at 4:00 PM, Villa Necchi Campiglio, in Milan, hosts a special event as part of the market-show Colors of Autumn dedicated to flowers and plants.
The event title is Three voices, one challenge: the green response to the climate emergency and brings together three professionals with different expertise: climatologist Luca Onorato, forester Riccardo Rizzetto, and garden designer Filippo Alossa.
At the heart of the dialogue will be a fundamental question: how to design and care for green spaces capable of adapting to climate transformations?
Abbey of San Fruttuoso, Camogli (GE)
Sunday, November 8, the Abbey of San Fruttuoso, in Camogli (GE), will be the protagonist of a walk dedicated to meteorology, to extreme events, and to the vegetation of the Portofino Park.
The Rai Meteo meteorologist Paolo Bellantone and the environmental hiking guide Federico Chiodaroli will accompany participants in discovering two different environments: olive terraces and the Mediterranean scrub. They will discuss how weather forecasts are prepared, how climate change makes the identification of extreme events more complex, and the consequences of these phenomena on vegetation.
Castle of Avio, Avio (TN)
Sunday, November 15, the Castle of Avio celebrates the traditional Estate di San Martino festival. The initiative recalls the story of Martin of Tours who, according to tradition, after giving his cloak to a poor man saw the sky clear and temperatures become milder, as if summer had returned.
During the day there will be guided tours to discover the castle’s history and beauty, but also a play trail designed to engage children and families.
Castle and Park of Masino, Caravino (TO)
Friday, November 20, the Castle and Park of Masino, in Canavese, opens exceptionally to the public the deposit of the castle’s paintings.
The appointment offers the opportunity to discover a hidden artistic heritage and to get a close look at the conservation and enhancement work of the collections. The star of the visit will be the Quadreria of the Salone dei Savoia, comprising over 90 portraits from the 17th and 18th centuries depicting important figures from the great European courts.
Casa Macchi, Morazzone (VA)
Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, Casa Macchi in Morazzone (VA) hosts the winter edition of Tante Care Cose, the market dedicated to rummage, antiques, and modern collectibles.
A gathering for vintage enthusiasts and curious visitors seeking unique pieces, among furniture, lamps, books, prints, porcelain, clothing, records, old toys, and memorabilia of all kinds, offered by local junk dealers and flea-market stalls. The through-line is reuse.
