The night train journey is poised to change its face to offer an increasingly compelling alternative to air travel for short and medium distances: attempting it is Nox Mobility, a Berlin-based startup aiming to build a new railway network capable of connecting 100 European cities by 2035. The project also includes Italy, with Rome among the planned destinations, and seeks to transform the time spent on board into an integral part of the travel experience.
The first connection will debut on March 23, 2027, when the night train between Hamburg and Munich comes into service, with intermediate stops at Bremen and Augsburg. The line will operate three times a week in both directions and will offer a formula designed to reconcile rest, work, and travel, thanks to a personal space reserved for each passenger.
On the occasion of the InnoTrans international fair in Berlin, Nox Mobility presented the first completed carriage and announced the opening of ticket sales. One-way fares start from 65 euros, and reservations are available on the company’s official website.
Nox Suites, uno spazio personale per ogni passeggero
The main novelty of the project concerns the arrangement of spaces on board: the service will not offer the traditional shared berths, but the so-called Nox Suites, individual work stations designed to guarantee greater privacy during the journey.
Each suite will be equipped with a wide seat, a table usable for work or dining, easily accessible power outlets, and enough space to store large luggage. During the day, the workstation can be used as a work area; at night, the seat will transform into a lounge-position surface, with about two meters of space to stretch out along the window.
The proposal, in the company’s intentions, draws on a hospitality model reminiscent of a boutique hotel, bringing on board some services and attentions typically associated with lodging establishments.
For those who had immediately imagined a real private bedroom, however, a later phase will be needed: the Nox Rooms, designed as private rooms for one or two people, are planned to begin in 2029.
Gli orari del nuovo treno tra Amburgo e Monaco
The inaugural link will connect two important German economic hubs, and the route has been designed to allow passengers to depart in the evening and arrive at their destination the following morning, avoiding dedicating a large part of the day to the transfer.
In the north-to-south direction, the train will depart from Hamburg Central Station at 21:22. The stop at Bremen is scheduled for 22:30, while the arrival in Augsburg will be at 7:35 in the morning; Munich will be reached at 8:14.
For the return journey, departure from Munich is set at 21:20, with a stop in Augsburg at 21:51. The train will arrive in Bremen at 7:20 in the morning and will conclude the route in Hamburg at 8:27.
The choice of the route is not casual: in 2024, more than 1.2 million passengers traveled by air between Hamburg and Munich, according to data cited by the company. The new connection aims to capture at least part of this demand, offering a transport modality that allows overnight hours to be used for travel.
Dalla Germania all’Italia, la rete punta a 100 città entro il 2035
Nox Mobility intends to gradually extend its network to reach 100 European cities by 2035: among the highlighted destinations are Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Budapest, and Rome.
The startup was founded in 2025 by Thibault Constant, founder of the Simply Railway project, by Janek Smalla, who worked on FlixTrain project management, and by mobility entrepreneur and investor Artur Hasselbach. In April 2026, the company raised two million euros in a pre-seed funding round led by IBB Ventures.
The ambition is to accelerate a process that in the railway sector can take several years before translating into the launch of new connections.
