If you are considering a short getaway to experience Advent in South Tyrol, know that from today you can do it in a way that diverges from the usual, far from the crowds at the biggest markets and immersed in a more intimate atmosphere. From November 27, 2026 to January 3, 2027 returns the Renon Trenatale, the Christmas market that links two towns on the plateau, Soprabolzano and Collalbo, thanks to the historic Renon Train.
The guiding thread is travel: on one side the square in front of the Renon rail station in Soprabolzano, on the other the center of Collalbo, with stalls reminiscent of the shape of railway carriages, local craftsmanship, Tyrolean specialties, music and family-friendly events. The overall aim is to recreate and preserve a calmer and more traditional atmosphere compared with the large Christmas markets, focusing on local products and on a slower, more immersive experience.
The Renon Trenatale between Soprabolzano and Collalbo
The Trenatale unfolds in two distinct points on the plateau. In Soprabolzano, the stalls line the square in front of the Renon Train Station, while in Collalbo the market animates the village center. They are linked by the little train, normally used as public transport and transformed during Advent into an integral part of the experience.
Among the stalls you will find handicrafts, decorations, knitting, ceramics, candles, bread and traditional sweets, along with culinary specialties and hot beverages. In Collalbo, for instance, there are exhibitors with salumi, herb blends, handmade items, bakery goods and ceramics crafted with the Raku technique. The final musical program is still being defined, but concerts and Christmas music are planned in both locations, along with activities designed for families.
Dates, hours and how to reach
The 2026-2027 edition of the Trenatale is scheduled from November 27, 2026 to January 3, 2027, but it is not open every day. Generally the market welcomes visitors on Fridays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with additional openings on some holidays and during the Christmas period. Among these are December 7 and 8, December 23, 26, 27 and 28, and January 2 and 3.
To reach it, from Bolzano you can use the Renon Cable Car, which takes you up to Soprabolzano. From there you continue with the Renon Train toward Collalbo. For 2026 the prices are listed as, subject to changes: €8.50 for a single cable-car ride and €13.50 for a one-way and return trip; the train costs €5.50 for a single ride and €8.50 for a round trip. There is also a combined ticket for cable car plus train from €12.50 one-way or €20.50 round trip.
More than a simple market, the Trenatale thus emphasizes the journey itself: ascend to the plateau, traverse the landscape by train and stop between two small towns illuminated for Advent. A recipe that makes the experience particularly suitable for those seeking a more intimate Christmas, with slower rhythms and a mountain ambiance.
