Merano and Tyrol Castle Christmas Markets 2026: Dates and Schedule

October 15, 2026

Wooden stalls, the scent of mulled wine, mountains in the background and lights that transform a simple stroll into something special. Between Merano and Castel Tirolo two of Advent’s most evocative appointments return, perfect for those who love browsing the stalls, uncovering small artisanal treasures and taking a break from the daily pace. On one side there’s Merano, with its festively dressed center, artisans at work and a luminous park dedicated to Sissi. On the other, Castel Tirolo, where the market moves among medieval walls, choirs and ancient traditions. Two different atmospheres, just a few kilometers apart. And plenty of good reasons to plan a Christmas weekend.

Christmas Markets in Merano

In Merano, the wooden stalls overlook the promenades along the Passirio, the squares take on a new look and the center becomes a constant flow of people hunting for gifts, typical sweets and something warm to drink. But the Merano Christmas Markets 2026 do not rely solely on the classic stalls. This year there is room also for those who want to see how an artisanal object is born, while just outside the center LUMAGICA returns, with light installations and a journey into the history of Empress Sissi.

Date

The Merano Christmas Markets 2026 will be open from November 26, 2026 to January 6, 2027, with an opening on Thursday, November 26 at 5:00 PM. The event will take place along the Passeggiata Lungo Passirio, at Terme Square and in other corners of the historic center, including Rena Square.

The program

Among the events to put on your calendar is the Stube dell’Artigianato, a space dedicated to manual crafts and local small producers who alternate felt works, wooden creations, ceramics and knitwear, as well as items born from reusing everyday materials.

And when night falls? Just a few minutes from the center, the Castel Trauttmansdorff Gardens take on a completely different look. From November 19, 2026 to January 10, 2027 LUMAGICA, the light park, returns this year with Sissi, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, as the protagonist, a figure tied to Merano’s history. The third edition offers a true journey through time. Along the route, light installations, sound effects and interactive stations recount the fascinations and atmospheres of the imperial era. The result promises to be decidedly cinematic, drawing on echoes of the past and contemporary light displays.

Christmas Markets in Castel Tirolo

Advent in Castel Tirolo 2026 returns to transform the ancient fortress that overlooks the Merano basin into a small Christmas world. No elaborate sets prepared for the occasion: the stone walls, the artisan shops and the mountain panorama are enough to make the experience memorable.

Date

The Christmas Markets in Castel Tirolo 2026 will take place from November 27 to 29 and from December 5 to 8 from 11 AM to 6 PM; the event will be held inside Castel Tirolo, reachable from the village center via a scenic stroll.

The program

The charm of Advent at Castel Tirolo is that you don’t need to hurry from one attraction to another. The program revolves around South Tyrolean traditions, with artisans displaying their creations, live music and regional specialties to taste between visits.

In the halls and spaces of the castle you can discover handmade items and decorations crafted with traditional techniques. The choirs and musical groups will accompany the festive days, while local associations will manage the gastronomic offerings. All of this in a setting decidedly different from the city markets. For the little ones there are animated moments and performances. On November 28 and December 5 a magician will arrive, ready to enliven the atmosphere with his tricks. On November 29, instead, the program takes a decidedly different turn with the arrival of the Krampus.

The ice rink in Tirolo, near the tennis courts between Via Ruperto and Via Principale, will open on November 28 and will be available until February 1, 2027. The hours are expected from 10:00 to 17:00, with Monday closed and openings depending on weather conditions.
