In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Murphy explained that the thirteenth season of American Horror Story, recently premiering in the United States and available in Italy from October 1, 2026 on Disney+, was conceived primarily as a tribute to the fans who have followed the series with passion for fifteen years and to the history of the show itself.
The thirteen new episodes will bring back beloved characters such as the one played by Sarah Paulson and those portrayed by Evan Peterson, in a kind of unprecedented crossover among all the previous seasons.
Even the locations of American Horror Story: 13 may sound familiar to those watching from the other side of the screen: among haunted buildings, covens of witches, and eerie hospices, there are indeed easter eggs that remind viewers how many mysteries can hide behind places that, at first glance, seem ordinary and are frequented every day.
What It’s About
Ben DeSoto, the lead character of the new season, works at a New York hospice. When he is entrusted with an elderly man as wealthy as he is enigmatic, he meets Constance Langodon, the character portrayed by Jessica Lange in the series’ first season (American Horror Story: Murder House) who is officially tasked with mentoring him. In the luxurious penthouse to which Ben is brought, he quickly discovers firsthand that the number thirteen, which seems to haunt him and for which, unlike his fiancée Kira, he has a real phobia, is a presage of events that could hardly be described as anything but nefarious. With Constance nearby, it was hardly going to be otherwise.
Where the Series Was Filmed
The highly anticipated thirteenth season of American Horror Story was shot mainly in New York, across fashionable neighborhoods, shopping streets, and nightlife districts that are well known even just for how many times they have been chosen as film locations.
Manhattan
The Apollyon, the building whose thirteenth floor houses the penthouse where the elderly gentleman cared for by Ben and Costance lives, does not exist in reality: it’s a blend of buildings and upscale residential settings in affluent New York.
Among the places where American Horror Story: 13 was filmed in the Big Apple, there is indeed primarily Manhattan with sets noted at Washington Square Park, one of the largest and most frequented public parks, also used for cultural activities, and near Riverside Church, the tallest church in the United States (thanks to its 120-meter spire) whose neo-Gothic style fits perfectly with the dark atmospheres of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s series.
The airport scenes were filmed at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, one of the most renowned public American schools for law and criminal justice.
In some shots it’s easy to recognize fashionable shops, chic restaurants, art galleries, and more generally the refined atmosphere of SoHo.
Brooklyn
Other locations for American Horror Story: 13 are in Brooklyn: filming would have taken place here between W 122nd and W 124th Street. Various online sources have reported the presence of sets also outdoors and near the studios of Broadway Stages, and it is not ruled out that the production may have utilized their facilities.
