What It’s About
More than a year has passed since the end of the previous season, when Andrea Fanti took a break from the hospital to stand by his wife who is battling mesothelioma. Returning to the ward, he immediately notices that many things have changed and not for the better.
The medical director, in order to save the Policlinico Ambrosiano from financial collapse, has imposed cuts in staff and in the number of beds. This development clashes with the medical philosophy that Dr. Fanti embodies, which prioritizes listening and dedicating more time to patients: in the new season of Doc – Nelle tue mani, he will therefore try to restore things to how they were.
He will do so with the help, among others, of Matteo: a new resident in whom he recognizes his own idealism and who will assist him in the complex attempt to shed light on some suspicious deaths that occurred in various hospital departments during his absence.
Where It Was Filmed
Like the previous seasons, the fourth installment of Doc – Nelle tue mani was shot between Rome, Milan, and Formello.
The Campus Bio-Medico University Policlinic
As has been clarified many times before, even in the past, the Ambrosiano Policlinic around which the Rai fiction revolves is not a real hospital in Milan. The scenes shot in wards and corridors were filmed in Rome, at the Campus Bio-Medico University Policlinic.
Just outside the Grande Raccordo Anulare, this hospital facility, attached to the corresponding university, is one of the most advanced in the capital: it is easy to note it from the ultra-modern environments, the sophisticated equipment, and the cutting-edge technologies that appear in the series’ shots, making the scenes more realistic.
Formello, Lux Vide Studios
Reproducing hospital settings on set, especially with a strong emphasis on fidelity in the layout of spaces and in the details, is not easy and risks stripping the shot of immediacy and engagement.
That does not mean there aren’t sequences in the fourth season of the Rai series featuring Luca Argentero that are entirely produced in a studio.
Among the locations of Doc – Nelle tue mani 4 are the Studios of Formello owned by Lux Vide, the production company of the series: it is here that many scenes set in the corridors and offices of the Ambrosiano Policlinic were filmed.
Milan
In Milan, the city where the fiction is set, most of the exterior shots were carried out to contextually anchor the events of Andrea Fanti and the other characters geographically. On screen, landmarks such as Piazza Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and the Teatro alla Scala with its square are easily recognizable.
The modern CityLife district, with its tall glass towers and the iconic Bosco Verticale, appears in more than one frame of the series.
Heart of Milan’s nightlife, the Navigli are also among the locations where Doc 4 was filmed.
Other locations
Some online sources indicate the Doc – Nelle tue mani 4 locations also include the San Felice Circeo pier: in some scenes the protagonist, played by Luca Argentero, would seek peace from the hospital routine in the renowned seaside town in Lazio.
