Having crossed the Atlantic and returned to the Mediterranean, the Amerigo Vespucci sails into Venice. From October 2 to 7, 2026, the historic sailing training ship of the Italian Navy will make a stop in the lagoon as part of the Amerigo Vespucci World Tour – Campaign in North America 2026, before heading to Trieste for the grand finale.
A special opportunity to see one of the world’s most famous ships in an equally iconic setting. During the Venice stay the Vespucci will be moored at Riva di San Biasio, opposite the Naval History Museum, and for the first three days will also open its doors to the public. The slots available for the initial days sold out, but on the official website visits will continue on subsequent days.
Amerigo Vespucci in Venice, information and hours
The Amerigo Vespucci will stay in Venice from 2 to 7 October, but the days dedicated to public visits will be 2, 3 and 4 October 2026, always from 14:00 to 19:00, with the last entry expected at 18:30. Access is free, but allowed exclusively with a named reservation made through the official site. Each registration can include up to four people and, once the procedure is completed, a QR code is sent to present at the entrance.
The visit is not guided, but during the route crew members will be available to answer visitors’ questions. Those who managed to secure a place must reach Riva di San Biasio, presenting themselves at the entrance together with all participants included in the same booking; in addition, an identity document may be required.
There are also some rules to know before boarding: comfortable shoes are recommended, while high heels and open-toed footwear are not allowed. Children may participate if accompanied, while strollers must be left on the quay. Due to the ship’s historic configuration there are architectural barriers that may limit access for people with mobility difficulties.
On October 6 and 7, during the final days of the Venice stop, the Arsenal of the Italian Navy will host the XV edition of the Trans-Regional Seapower Symposium, an international forum that will bring together the leaders of around 70 foreign navies together with representatives from academia, science, industry and innovation.
After Venice, the Vespucci arrives in Trieste for Barcolana
Venice will be the penultimate stop of a journey that began last May. After crossing North America and returning to the Mediterranean, the Amerigo Vespucci will conclude Campaign 2026 in Trieste, where it will be the centerpiece of the 58th edition of Barcolana, scheduled for Sunday, October 11.
The Giulian capital will welcome the sailing vessel from October 8 to 12, together with the return of the Villaggio IN Italia, featuring a calendar of events that will also include forums dedicated to sailing and scuba diving. In the same days the Navy’s Nastro Rosa Veloce, an international sailing competition, is expected to arrive, and this year it will end for the first time in Trieste.
The bond between the Vespucci and Barcolana already has a long history: the ship has taken part in the event on several occasions, from the historic 50th edition in 2018 to the Barcolana Special Edition of March 1, 2025, organized to celebrate its return to Italy after the World Tour 2023-2025. On that occasion no fewer than 1,333 sailing, motor, and oar vessels accompanied the warship to the San Giusto Basin.
