And it is precisely the spaces dedicated to relaxation before boarding that are the focus of some of the most awaited recognitions of Skytrax’s World Airline Awards 2026.
The ranking of the best independent airport lounges is born from the votes of passengers around the world, invited to evaluate aspects such as the services offered, the comfort of the environments, and the warmth of the staff. The result is a top 20 that speaks largely in American terms, but also delivers a gratifying moment for Italy.
Rome Fiumicino, second in the rankings
On the first step of the global podium there is the Chase Sapphire Lounge at LaGuardia airport in New York, but right after comes a name from Italy: the Plaza Premium Lounge at Rome Fiumicino. A second-place finish that also earns the title of best lounge on the European continent.

The most scenic lounge inside the Rome airport is located at Terminal 3 and is designed for travelers heading to destinations outside the Schengen Area. A spacious space whose design pays homage to the architecture of ancient Rome, on the upper level of Area E. Those flying to Italy or Europe will instead find the lounge at Terminal 1, dedicated to domestic and European travelers.

Beyond Rome and London, Europe also makes its presence felt further down the list. The Vienna Lounge at Vienna International Airport ranks twelfth, the iGA Lounge in Istanbul seventeenth, and the Airport Lounge World at Munich Terminal 1 eighteenth.
In the standings by groups, instead, behind Plaza Premium Group are TAV Primeclass and Chase Sapphire Lounges. Completing the top 10 are Capital One Lounges, Coral Lounge Group, American Express Centurion Lounges, Aspire Lounges, Escape Lounges, Araya Lounges and CATRION Lounges.
In the same edition of the Skytrax Awards, the world’s best airlines were also recognized: those who wish to pair a podium lounge with a flight that is equally acclaimed will know where to look.
