In the northern Aegean Sea there exists a private island that seems to have stepped out of a fairy tale: it is named Argyronisos, also known as the Island of Silver, and today it is for sale. It lies in the Gulf of Pteleos, off the northern tip of the island of Euboea, and spans about 24 hectares. The property includes private beaches and coves, an ancient olive grove, several stone houses, and even a historic chapel.
The island, one of the most incredible refuges along the European coastline, passed to the current owning family in 1961 and, for more than sixty years, has been preserved as a private residence and an organic olive farm. Today, for the first time in decades, it is being offered on the market through Engel & Völkers, with price on request.
Argyronisos, the private island for sale
The name Argyronisos means “Isle of Silver” and recalls the color of the olive leaves when stirred by the wind. It is precisely the vegetation that characterizes the landscape, together with the hills, secluded coves, and the waters of the Gulf of Pteleos.
The property comprises roughly 937 square meters of built surface, distributed among eleven stone structures that are well preserved. Among them are the main residence, a two-story villa, several independent houses (caravans), the caretaker’s residence, and a chapel. The buildings are nestled within the landscape and maintain a discreet architecture designed to blend with nature.
Among its most distinctive features is the Chapel of Agioi Anargyroi, a small Greek-orthodox church located in the heart of the estate. The property also preserves an organic olive grove with century-old trees that for decades produced oil mainly for the owner’s family consumption, a heliport and a yacht dock.
Another remarkable aspect of Argyronisos is its energy autonomy. The island, managed under sustainable principles, uses an independent solar power system, complemented by a backup generator for periods of bad weather, while water is collected and stored in dedicated tanks. A system designed to allow the property to operate without reliance on public networks.
Argyronisos also includes naturally private beaches, while access to deep waters enables reaching the island even with large vessels. Its position also places it near the Sporades, with Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos reachable by sea.
How to reach the Greek island for sale
Despite its secluded character, Argyronisos is not entirely isolated. The connection to the mainland is via private boats from the ports and tourist docks in the area. From the city of Athens, the overall land-and-sea journey takes about three and a half hours.
For those who prefer a quicker transfer, it is possible to reach by private helicopter from Athens International Airport, with a flight of around fifty minutes. The island of Greece indeed has a dedicated landing area. Transfers can be even shorter when departing from nearby islands equipped with a heliport.
The private island is currently offered for exclusive sale by Engel & Völkers. The price has not been made public and is available on request, together with the complete documentation of the property.
