The journey aboard the Trenino Verde delle Alpi is enriched with a new option for those who want to discover Switzerland by following an enchanting itinerary that pairs mountains, lakes, landscapes, and charming small Alpine towns. The novelty concerns Stockhorn, in the Bernese Oberland, a peak that rises to nearly 2,200 meters above sea level and becomes the destination to include in the route of the famous panoramic train.
The proposal arrives right at the start of the autumn season, when Alpine landscapes take on especially evocative colors and the train journey becomes an opportunity to alternate travel, strolls, and moments dedicated to the discovery of a fairy-tale territory.
From the Trenino Verde delle Alpi to Stockhorn
To reach Stockhorn starting with the Trenino Verde delle Alpi one must disembark at Spiez, one of the stops along the route: from here one continues with a regional train toward Erlenbach im Simmental, from where the ascent toward the mountain begins. The final part of the itinerary indeed involves the use of the cable car, reachable after a walk through the village.
The new excursion has been designed to integrate with the journey on the Trenino Verde delle Alpi and offers a dedicated ticket, purchasable on the BLS website. The fare for Stockhorn is 49 francs, about 52 euros, and is valid only if paired with the daily card or with the 2-day card of the Trenino Verde BLS.
Two combined options are also available: the Day Pass + Stockhorn costs 113 francs, about 121 euros, while the 2-day Pass + Stockhorn is priced at 121 francs, about 130 euros. These combinations allow savings of up to around 35% compared with the price of a Domodossola to Stockhorn round-trip ticket.
Almost 2,200 meters of altitude amid Alpine panoramas and lakes
Stockhorn is a stop suitable for those who want to experience the mountain without giving up the possibility of choosing among multiple experiences: at nearly 2,200 meters above sea level, the summit offers the opportunity to engage in excursions of all levels and scenic walks, immersed in an environment characterized by Alpine tranquility.
One of the most spectacular points is the panoramic platform on the north face, from which the gaze sweeps over Lake Thun, the Jura mountain range, and, under particularly favorable weather conditions, can even reach the Black Forest.
Moving to the south side, just below the summit, appears the Hinterstocken lake, nestled among rocks: on one side the breadth of the panorama, on the other a more intimate and evocative environment.
A panoramic journey from Domodossola to Bern
The proposal sits within a railway itinerary that allows you to admire some of Switzerland’s most characteristic landscapes.
The journey aboard the Trenino Verde delle Alpi indeed starts from Domodossola, with connections roughly every two hours, and follows a route along the historic lines of the Sempione and the Lötschberg, both marked by a railway history of more than a century. The possible itineraries include Briga, Wiler-Goppestein, Kandersteg, Frutigen, Spiez, Thun and Bern: depending on the stop chosen, the trip can take on different characteristics, from the mountains to the shores of lakes, from walks to exploring the cities to wellness experiences.
During the journey, the train gradually threads into the alpine environment and offers, through its wide windows, glimpses of the sunlit terraces of the Valais and the mountains of the Bernese Oberland, also passing through places like Kandersteg. After crossing the northern flank of the Alps, the route continues downhill toward Lake Thun to reach Bern in a little over two hours.
