Bressanone Christmas Markets 2026: Dates and Schedule

September 12, 2026

It’s not too early to start imagining the atmosphere of lit wooden huts, the scent of spices, and steaming mugs of mulled wine and hot chocolate among the mountains of South Tyrol: the dates of the Bressanone Christmas Markets have been officially announced, and alongside them a special calendar with events and initiatives to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the occasion. For more than a month the historic center will transform into a small Christmas world made of craftsmanship, Tyrolean flavors, music, and family-friendly happenings. But this year there will be more: light shows, artistic installations, and a program that blends tradition with contemporary creativity.

Dates of the Christmas Markets in Bressanone for 2026

For the 35th anniversary, the Bressanone Christmas Market will open on November 26 with events in the historic center: at 16:30 the Angels’ Parade, while at 17:00 the official inauguration. From the following day it will run daily until January 6 (excluding December 25).

Among the defining features of the 2026 edition will also be the White Tower. Each day, coinciding with the market’s opening, the carillon will offer a special version of the “Ode to Joy.” There will also be an Advent Calendar: from December 1 to 24 a new window will be revealed each day. What is the theme for 2026? Hope, which will be the thread running through all the most eagerly anticipated events for the emblematic market of South Tyrol.

The most awaited events

The Christmas calendar will not stop at the stalls. Among the most curious happenings, the traditional Krampus parade on December 5 returns, followed on December 6 by the arrival of Saint Nicholas. The grand finale will arrive on January 6, when the Befana will reach Piazza Duomo together with the Three Wise Men and dozens of costumed performers.

One of the events not to miss, however, will be OOPS 2 – A Light & Music Show for UNICEF, scheduled at the Hofburg from November 26, 2026 to January 9, 2027.

The façades of the historic Bishop’s Palace will become a gigantic backdrop thanks to projections by the French artists Spectaculaires, accompanied by the music of Giorgio Moroder. Excluding only December 24 and 25, every evening the show will captivate visitors with two unmissable performances and every week on Saturdays and on the evenings of December 6 and 7, an additional show will be added.

Besides being spectacular, OOPS 2 will also have a charitable aspect: for every ticket sold, one euro will be allocated to UNICEF for a project related to access to clean water and sanitation services in Zambia. Those seeking something even more scenographic should mark their calendars for the period December 4 to January 31, 2027 when Via Illuminativa – Station Hope will be staged: the precious itinerary leads through contemporary art installations involving churches and public spaces in the town center, inviting visitors to explore the town beyond the market streets.

Where they take place and where to park

The Bressanone Christmas Markets take place in Piazza Duomo, right in the heart of the city and they are exceedingly convenient for those arriving by train: from the station it’s only a few minutes on foot. Those arriving by car should exit at Chiusa/Val Gardena or at Bressanone/Varna to head toward parking areas such as Autosilo Stufles on Via Cesare Battisti, or the Aquarena parking on Via Brennero, or the Via Dante garage and the Parkgarage Bressanone.

For those seeking free parking there is an option on the southern outskirts of Bressanone along the state road, about 20 minutes from the market square.
