Milan-Alba Historic Train: Autumn Trip Through Truffles and Fine Wines

August 25, 2026

Autumn can be experienced even from the window of a train, as you leave behind Milan and gradually enter the Langhe’s landscape. On 11, the 18, and 25 October 2026, the historic train Milan Central-Alba arrives—a route devoted to two central characters of Piedmont: the truffle and the wine. A journey that marries the charm of vintage railways with the discovery of one of Italy’s most celebrated regions for its food and wine culture.

The destination is Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, where hills and vineyards sketch a landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is precisely in autumn that this corner of Piedmont takes on a particularly evocative atmosphere, with the season’s colors, markets dedicated to local products, and the traditions tied to the truffle and the great wines of the area.

The Historic Train from Milan Central Station to Alba

The journey aboard an electric locomotive will depart from Milan Central Station and accompany passengers through a gradual change of scenery. From the urban scale of the Lombard metropolis, it will transition to a landscape increasingly characterized by orderly rows, rolling hills, and small historic towns, all the way to the Langhe territory.

To make the experience special, there will be Gran Confort carriages, iconic coaches of Italy’s railway history designed to provide spacious, quiet, and comfortable environments. The wide windows will allow observers to watch the countryside during the journey, while the slow pace of the train will transform travel into a true experience of the journey itself.

On board there will also be tasting moments dedicated to local products. The flavors of the Langhe will thus become part of the itinerary even before arriving in Alba, creating a link between the trip, the scenery, and the Piedmontese gastronomic tradition.

Once the destination is reached, travelers can freely explore Alba, one of the Italian capitals of food and wine, wandering among artisan shops, historic wine shops, seasonal markets, and tasting experiences. Autumn is a particularly favorable period to discover the city’s identity and the surrounding area, when the truffle becomes one of the season’s symbols.
