A sweep of pale sand, dunes behind it and in front only the turquoise hues of the Atlantic: Playa Alzada, in Fuerteventura, is one of those places where the landscape seems to have claimed all the space, leaving little room for human intervention.
Nestled in the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park, in the northeast of the island, it is one of the quietest beaches along this spectacular stretch of coastline and in 2026 it earned a prestigious international recognition: it ranked 48th in Europe’s 50 Best Beaches list, which brings together the 50 most beautiful beaches in Europe according to more than a thousand travel professionals and experts.
The award is not surprising given a scene where golden, fine sand, clear water, volcanic rocks and dunes meet without hotels or large structures interrupting the horizon: Playa Alzada preserves, in fact, an essential and wild character, perfect for those seeking the sea in Fuerteventura but also that sense of freedom that only beaches remaining close to their original nature can offer.
Playa Alzada, between golden sand, ocean, and Corralejo dunes
Playa Alzada stretches in front of the vast Corralejo dune system and features a golden, fine sandy shore about 840 meters long and about 30 meters wide on average.
The contrast between land and water is what immediately catches the eye. Behind, the landscape takes on almost the appearance of a small desert, with the dunes part of a protected natural area extending for more than ten kilometers along the coast; in front, the Atlantic displays tones that range from azure to turquoise.
You can lay your towel on the sand and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere or walk along the coast, observing up close the continuous alternation of dunes, volcanic rocks, and ocean. Photography enthusiasts also find here a particularly evocative setting, especially when the light highlights the contrast between the warm colors of the land and the intense hues of the water.
There are no bars, restaurants, showers, or toilets on the beach: if you decide to spend a few hours here you must come prepared, bringing with you especially water, sunscreen, and everything you might need during the day. There are essential services such as cleaning and trash bins, and there is also a lifeguard service.
You can stop to listen to the wind, read while gazing at the ocean, or stroll along the dunes’ edge, always taking care to respect a fragile and protected ecosystem: in the Natural Park it is essential not to remove stones, sand or natural elements and not to alter the landscape.
Where it is located and how to get there
Playa Alzada is located in the northeast of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of La Oliva, in the heart of the Corralejo Natural Park, and a few kilometers southeast of the town of Corralejo.
Getting there is fairly straightforward because the road that runs through the dune landscape stays very close to the coast. Access to the beach is then easy on foot, and along the road there are spaces to leave the car before proceeding toward the shore.
You can also reach the area by public transport, with connections indicated by lines 6 and 7. If you’re traveling independently, check in advance the stops and updated schedules, especially because the beach is not located within a town.
