With the new Wizz Air promotion, valid today September 22 until midnight, you can book a discounted flight of up to 15% to depart between October 1, 2026 and January 3, 2027. The perfect chance to rent a car upon arrival and launch into a genuine autumn road trip, away from the beaten paths.
Here are three destinations, and three road itineraries, to discover by taking advantage of this new offer.
From Bologna to Tirana
From Bologna you can fly to Tirana with tickets starting from 41 euros. The Albanian capital, with its mix of socialist-era architecture and trendy venues, is only the starting point: once you’ve rented a car, the real adventure can begin. Forget the coastal towns that the country has become famous for in recent years, and type Berat into your navigator. The “City of a Thousand Windows” is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its Ottoman-era old town perched on the hill.
From here you continue south to Gjirokastër (Argirocastro), another UNESCO gem, famous for its stone houses and the castle that overlooks the valley. An itinerary that in a few days traverses mountains, quiet villages, and landscapes still little frequented, revealing a genuine and surprising Albania, perfect to experience on the road in autumn.
From Milan Malpensa to Porto
From Milan Malpensa, however, you can fly to Porto with tickets starting from 45 euros. This is the ideal gateway to one of Portugal’s most fascinating road trips. After exploring the city’s historic districts along the Douro River, our suggestion is to rent a car and head inland.
In about an hour and a half of driving you reach the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the cradle of the vineyards that give birth to the famous Port wine. In autumn the landscape takes on red and gold hues, with terraced slopes descending toward the river in one of Europe’s most beautiful panoramas. Along the way it’s worth stopping in small wine villages, making scenic stops and perhaps enjoying a tasting at one of the region’s historic cellars for a slow and scenic itinerary.
From Rome Fiumicino to Prague
Finally, from Rome Fiumicino you can fly to Prague with fares starting from 53 euros, an ideal starting point for a road trip to discover Czech autumn foliage. In addition to the capital’s parks, where Petřín Hill and the Divoká Šárka nature reserve already offer spectacular views, the real autumn experience comes from renting a car and venturing beyond the city limits.
Just a few kilometers from Prague lies the Průhonický Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and among Europe’s largest landscaped parks, with an incredible variety of trees displaying autumn colors. Another recommended stop is Konopiště, with its castle surrounded by a sprawling park and a circular path around the pond, perfect for a slow stroll amid autumn colors. Those with more days can go further and reach the scenic Hluboká Castle, one of the country’s most photographed, which in autumn offers fairytale-like views.
